Two Rondes from Danserye (Tielman Susato, 1551) for Wind Instruments

Small Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522187 Composed by Tielman Susato. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Christmas,Holiday,Renaissance. Score and parts. 26 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #6371719. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522187). The instrumental music of the renaissance is enjoying an enormous revival and this arrangement of two dances is sure to brighten up your musical event. The dances come from one of the earliest collections of instrumental dance music, published in Antwerp in 1551 by Tielman (or Tylman) Susato and entitled Danserye. Little is known of Susatoâs life except that he was born sometime between 1500 and 1515 and eventually became a successful calligrapher and publisher. Danserye contains about sixty numbers some of which have become well known since their revival in the middle of the 20th century. The two rondes in this arrangement are the first and sixth dances taken from a set of nine. Some of the dances have names and the first ronde is entitled Pour quoy? It is paired with the sixth ronde which has become one of the most well-known pieces in the collection. Several changes have been made to the inner parts to facilitate performance and the first ronde has been transposed down a fifth. Musicians would often combine several dances to make a more substantial piece and were expected to add embellishments to the melody, particularly in repeated sections. In the spirit of the original, this four-part arrangement uses flexible instrumentation so that you have total control over the instrumental voicing. The arrangement could be played by virtually any combination of conventional wind instruments. This 4-part arrangement is presented in a single PDF file which includes the Full Score; Part 1 (C, B flat, E flat); Part 2 (C, B flat, E flat); Part 3 (C, F, B flat, E flat), Part 4 (C, B flat, E flat); Keyboard and Percussion. The optional keyboard and percussion parts are the additions of the arranger and do not appear in the original. This arrangement uses conventional percussion that can be found in any elementary school music room. The percussion parts may be interpreted freely and additional instruments added if required.

String Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1034006 Composed by Tielman Susato. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Renaissance. Score and parts. 17 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #639328. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1034006). Unlike country dances, the formal dances of royal courts in the sixteenth century required a good deal of study and practice. Many dancing masters published self-help instructional books, especially in France and Italy. Composers and publishers saw a commercial potential in collections of dance music and one of the earliest collections was that by composer and publisher Tielman (or Tylman) Susato, who published his Danserye in Antwerp in 1551. These music books were usually arranged with four independent instrumental parts and intended for use by any instruments that happened to be available. They are attractive pieces and are sure to be popular at any concerts, public recitals or end-of-semester events. This arrangement is for virtually any string ensemble and the single PDF file includes a full score and parts for violin 1, violin 2, viola (violin 3), cello and bass (combined), keyboard and simple percussion. Two additional melody part are provided in the treble and bass clefs and the chords (for optional guitar) are shown in both keyboard and cello-bass parts. In the spirit of the original publication, you can add to the melody line any other C-pitch instruments that happen to be available. Even the additional of a couple of recorders will enhance the sound. Alternatively, you can do opposite and create a pleasing contrast by omitting various instruments for certain sections. The audio demo will give you an idea how this might be achieved. While you can add flute, recorder, oboe, glockenspiel or whatever you want, additional instruments are not essential but can add contrasting tone color. The keyboard part is intended as a guide and when possible, the keyboard player should feel free to improvise around the part and the chords shown. A digital or acoustic harpsichord sounds more authentic than a piano. Most electronic keyboards have a harpsichord option. The optional percussion instruments used are similar to those found in elementary school music rooms and usually include a tambor or hand-held drum, antique (finger) cymbals, wood-blocks and tambourine. Two or three players can be used (but feel free to add more) and the parts can be interpreted quite freely. Dance music is intended to be fun, and we hope that this arrangement brings you just that.

Brass Band Euphonium,Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.817168 Composed by Tielman Susato. Arranged by Charles Decker. Classical,Contest,Festival,Historic,Instructional,Renaissance. 29 pages. Charles Decker Music Press #6644309. Published by Charles Decker Music Press (A0.817168). They may be 500 years old, but these three Renaissance instrumental dances from Tillman Susato's 1551 collection The Third Little Music Book, prefaced with to be played on all types of musical instruments, remain appealing music for audiences and performers. These lively popular dances of the day feature homophonic setting, root position chords, primary beat stresses, and individual parts that encompass an octave or less which makes them very accessible for young or inexperienced musicians. Scoring them for two antiphonal brass quartets, each with two B-flat trumpets and two trombones with alternate substitute horn parts, creates a memorable aural and visual performance experience. Beyond brass programs or special events, feature the brass section of your band or orchestra with this lively work on your next concert. The recording is of the entire edition.See 50+ homogeneous brass editions for trumpet, horn and trombone ensembles and 75+ mixed brass ensemble publications with Charles Decker Music Press at Sheet Music Plus for inexperienced to advanced musicians with music ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary new works for trios, quartets, quintets, brass choir and brass band. New Antiquity - An anthology of 15 pieces for violin and viola duo

Violin, Viola - Advanced Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Anonimus, Tielman Susato, Thoinot Arbeau, Sonja Kalajic. Arranged by Sonja Kalajic. Romantic Period, Renaissance, Early Music, Repertoire, Recital. Individual Part. 68 pages. Published by Tradition
The New Antiquity collection includes 15 compositions for a violin and viola duo. Ten compositions from the collection, composed by anonymous authors from the Middle Ages and two Renaissance authors, Tielman Susato and Thoinot Arbeau, have been arranged by Sonja Kalajic. The other five pieces are original romantic compositions by Sonja Kalajic inspired by the spirit of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Beautiful hits of early music, or so-called music of antiquity, have been adapted to the modern and standard violin and viola duo in keeping with the newer instrumental and concertante possibilities of the said instruments. There is no evidence that anyone has adapted that kind of music for such a musical ensemble before, so this edition of musical scores represents a noteworthy contribution to the greater affirmation of early music, to the literature of the string duet in question, and to music in general. From the technical point of view, the collection consists of compositions for almost all levels of performance from easier pieces by anonymous authors to some virtuoso ones, like Heraldry by Sonja Kalajic. We hope that the compositions from the New Antiquity collection will enrich and refresh certain concert programs, that they will encourage some performers to attempt new interpretations of old melodies and dances, and that the musicians and the audiences will jointly feel and enjoy the indestructible and astonishing relevance of those musical compositions.<br> <br> C O N T E N T S<br> Thoinot Arbeau Two pieces<br> Anonimus Three pieces<br> Tielman Susato Five pieces<br> Sonja Kalajic Five knightly pieces
